 When
it comes to fire—there are certain possible dangers implied.
Of course you do not want these relatively low risks to deter you
from using and enjoying your fireplace. Children should be taught
certain rules to follow when there is a fire going in your fireplace.
If you have a screened fireplace with fireplace doors that open
and shut as well, it is definitely easier to keep children as well
as yourself from harm and follow basic fireplace safety guidelines.
Otherwise, you must be extra stern about staying away a certain
distance from the fire and never using fireplace tools because then
the child will certainly get too close to the fire. If there is
an older child—we suggest that you are strict with them also
regarding fireplace safety, so they know that they should not be
using the fireplace tools or leaning to close to the fire without
an adult present.
You do not want to have to deal with an accident when the goal
is to relax and unwind before the fireplace. Please practice fireplace
safety—we cannot emphasize it enough. A burn is one of the
most painful if not the most painful kind of injury anyone can have—so
the safer the better, right? Be sure to practice fireplace safety
for your own sake and for the sale of your loved ones. Besides,
a trip to the Emergency Room on thanksgiving weekend because of
an accidental burn sort of puts a cramp in the family fun—don’t
you think?
